Jason P. Browning, Ph.D., MBA is an experienced higher education data and analytics professional. He was recently appointed the inaugural chief data officer at Montana State University. Previously, he served as the senior director for data and analytics at EAB, a higher education consulting firm, where he focuses on data and analytic solutions.

Prior to his work at EAB, Jason served as the inaugural executive director of institutional effectiveness at Utah Tech University, where he consolidated institutional research, strategic planning, assessment, and accreditation functions into one strategic office. While at Utah Tech, he led the development and implementation of a campus-wide data warehouse and business intelligence solution. He also served as the assistant vice president for institutional research at the Northern Wyoming Community College District.

In addition to his professional experience in higher education, Jason has also worked as a bank examiner, controller, and finance professional. He holds a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of Wyoming, where his dissertation topic was the emergence of the chief data officer role in higher education. He also holds an MBA from Xavier University, and an undergraduate degree in accounting and economics from Bellarmine University.
